TLIC3005 - Drive Heavy Combination Vehicle

Our Heavy Combination (HC) Truck Licence Training  allows you to obtain a licence to operate a prime mover attached to a single semi-trailer with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of over 9 tons.

You can apply for this licence after holding a valid WA C class license for at least 3 or Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) licence for 12 months. With HC licence, you’ll be equipped to drive articulated trucks with three or more axles, such as a prime mover towing a semi-trailer or a heavy rigid vehicle pulling a trailer that exceeds 9 tons.

Department of Transport (DoT) Licensing Requirements for HC

Before you can undertake your Heavy Combination (HC) Practical Driving Assessment (PDA), you must meet the following Department of Transport (WA) requirements:

RTO / Training

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Hold a current and valid Australian C Class licence.
  • Provide two (2) forms of appropriate identification.
  • Complete the theory assessment for TLIC3005 Drive Heavy Combination Vehicle.
  • Complete the required practical training.
  • Demonstrate competency in all assessment tasks, including vehicle inspections, fault finding, safe driving practices, manoeuvring, and road driving.
  • Meet the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the training program.

Training Includes

  • Two days of face-to-face practical driver training(Approximately 8 hours)
  • Pre-trip inspection
  • Vehicle controls and operation
  • Coupling and uncoupling procedures
  • Reversing practice
  • Safe driving techniques
  • Practical assessment (subject to DoT requirements)
  • After passing the DoT Practical Driving Assessment (PDA) at the RTO, visit a Department of Transport (DoT) Driver and Vehicle Services centre or authorised DoT agent to pay the applicable licensing fee and upgrade your driver licence.

Additional training may be required depending on an individual’s experience and competency
